The photograph is highly detailed and depicts star particles in all colors scattered across the universe. The Helix Nebula is located 650 light-years away in the constellation Aquarius, and nebulae are actually remnants of stars that once resembled the Sun,\u201d the post reads.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"334\" src=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/nebula-800x334-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10546\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/nebula-800x334-1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/nebula-800x334-1-300x125.jpg 300w, https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/nebula-800x334-1-768x321.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGod\u2019s eye,\u201d one user writes in the description (archived <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/cqm4K\">here<\/a>), sharing the photo, which they evidently believe to be an authentic depiction of a cosmic nebula. Another user (archived <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/i5MxN\">here<\/a>) shares the same image, labeling it \u201cThe Cosmic Eye,\u201d while a third user clarifies that it is \u201cone of the most beautiful known nebulae \u2013 the Helix Nebula or \u2018God\u2019s Eye.\u2019\u201d \u201cThe photograph reveals a dying star that has shed its outer layers in a spectacular explosion,\u201d reads the description accompanying this post (archived <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/lxmzJ\">here<\/a>). On English-speaking platforms, such posts are common and widely shared, as demonstrated by a post in the \u201cNational Geographic and History Lovers\u201d group, which has been shared over five thousand times (archived <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/LGQIv\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Helix Nebula, located in the Aquarius constellation more than 650 light-years away, is indeed referred to as God\u2019s Eye, the Cosmic Eye, or the Cosmic Orb, but it does not look the way it is depicted in the photograph that Facebook users are sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The true appearance of the Helix Nebula is shown in the most detailed photograph taken by NASA telescopes in collaboration with the U.S. National Science Foundation. The photograph is available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/IKwSo\">Getty Images platform<\/a>, and we have also used it as the cover image for this article, sourced from AFP. The image was taken in May 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The description of the photograph on Getty Images reads: \u201cThis image of the spiral Helix Nebula is one of the largest and most detailed pictures of a cosmic object ever taken. The complex image is a flawless combination of ultra-sharp images from NASA\u2019s Hubble Space Telescope and wide-angle shots from the Mosaic camera on the National Science Foundation\u2019s 0.9-meter telescope at the Kitt Peak Observatory near Tucson, Arizona. The image shows a fine network of fibrous features resembling \u2018bike spokes\u2019 embedded in a colorful red-blue ring of gas. Located 650 light-years away, the Helix is one of the closest planetary nebulae to Earth.
