In the wake of sudden power outages on April 28 that left Spain and Portugal paralyzed, social media users began spreading a claim<\/a> that the ‘European Bank’<\/em> had issued an alert about a potential cyberattack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The video begins with the statement: ‘It\u2019s now official! The European Bank has raised the alarm. Prepare for an attack!’\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, by turning to official sources, Faktoje searched for the official website<\/a>, the official Twitter account<\/a>, and the official Instagram account<\/a> of the European Central Bank (ECB), the central bank of the Eurozone and the European Union, responsible for monetary policy, foreign exchange operations, and euro banknotes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No such alarm is present on the official communication channels of the European Central Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, no such alarm appears in the official communications<\/a> of the European Banking Authority (EBA), the EU agency responsible for enforcing a set of standard rules to regulate and supervise banks across all EU countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
