This meeting took place on April 19, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaticannews.va\/en\/vatican-city\/news\/2025-04\/us-vice-president-jd-vance-visits-cardinal-parolin.html\">Vatican News<\/a>, a news service provided by the Holy See\u2019s Dicastery for Communication, and it was held separately, not as a substitute for the meeting with Pope Francis on April 20.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaticannews.va\/en\/pope\/news\/2025-04\/pope-francis-meets-us-vice-president-jd-vance-at-santa-marta.html\">Vatican News<\/a>, Pope Francis and Vance had a <em>&#8216;brief&#8217;<\/em> meeting on April 20, which lasted <em>&#8216;a few minutes&#8217;.<\/em> During this time, the two exchanged Easter greetings and reaffirmed their <em>&#8216;shared commitment to defending the right to religious freedom and freedom of conscience&#8217;.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The two also discussed the &#8216;<em>international situation, particularly in countries affected by war, political tensions, and difficult humanitarian situations, with special attention to migrants, refugees, and those in prison.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Pope Francis passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88, following a stroke that left him in a coma and caused heart failure.
