Carney is a former Bank of Canada chief, opposes joining the United States, and supports Ukraine, like his predecessor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"684\" height=\"872\" src=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/pk2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/pk2.jpg 684w, https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/pk2-235x300.jpg 235w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 684px) 100vw, 684px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The photograph in question was taken on April 27 during a campaign event <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slobodnaevropa.org\/a\/izbori-u-kanadi-liberali\/33399799.html\">ahead of the federal elections<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/ghostarchive.org\/archive\/zsd77\">archived<\/a>). Mark Carney delivered a speech to attendees in Edmonton, and both photographs and video footage of the event are publicly available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLiberal leader Mark Carney addressed the crowd during a campaign stop in Edmonton, Alberta, on Sunday,\u201d reads the caption of the photo published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ledevoir.com\/politique\/canada\/872485\/jusqu-bout-carney-evoque-menace-americaine#:~:text=Le%20chef%20lib%C3%A9ral%20Mark%20Carney%20s%E2%80%99adressant%20%C3%A0%20la%20foule%20lors%20d%E2%80%99un%20arr%C3%AAt%20de%20campagne%20%C3%A0%20Edmonton%2C%20Alberta%2C%20dimanche\">the French media outlet Le Devoir<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/ghostarchive.org\/archive\/NEkYF\">archived<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/marissenmark\/status\/1916933830285705340\/video\/1\">Upon reviewing the video footage<\/a> of Carney\u2019s speech (<a href=\"https:\/\/ghostarchive.org\/archive\/CXt6Y\">archived<\/a>), it is evident that the photograph allegedly showing the Canadian Prime Minister performing a \u201cSieg Heil!\u201d gesture is, in fact, just a moment of natural gesturing during his address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By selectively extracting a frame from the footage of Carney\u2019s speech, the impression was created that he gave a Nazi salute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The image\u2014a screenshot from the video\u2014was presented in a misleading manner. During his speech, the Prime Minister raised his left hand multiple times: first, pointing a finger toward the audience and then raising his open hand, which was then equated with the Nazi gesture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"509\" src=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-06-04-122836-1024x509.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-06-04-122836-1024x509.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-06-04-122836-300x149.jpg 300w, https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-06-04-122836-768x381.jpg 768w, https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-06-04-122836.jpg 1033w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although born in Fort Smith, Carney <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal.ca\/meet-mark-carney\/\">grew up in Edmonton<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/ghostarchive.org\/archive\/MKUWR\">archived<\/a>), Alberta, where he spent his childhood and youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The alleged \u201csalute\u201d occurred precisely at the moment when Carney recognized friends in the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFirst of all, I want to say hello to Blaine and Trinity O\u2019Coyne, who are sitting over there\u2014or rather, not sitting, but standing. High school friends, lifelong friends. I played hockey with Blaine. To me, that\u2019s Edmonton. When you make a friend in Edmonton, you have a friend for life,\u201d the Canadian Prime Minister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the photograph was taken out of context during a public speech and bears no connection to any Nazi salute, we rate these claims as <strong>manipulation of facts<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cManipulation of Facts\u201d rating is given to a media report that uses known and accurate facts but interprets them in a deceptive manner.
