The image has been generated using artificial intelligence (AI) software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This becomes particularly evident in the change in the \u2018soldier\u2019s\u2019 height. In the first image, he appears shorter than the \u2018woman\u2019 next to him. In the second image, the height difference between them is noticeably greater, as illustrated below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"334\" height=\"407\" src=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-2.png 334w, https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-2-246x300.png 246w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 334px) 100vw, 334px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The man in the left image is shorter than the man in the right image.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The image above is among <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Erdbeerdampfe\/status\/1938633419476337137\">several<\/a> AI-generated ones circulating online, claiming to show Ukrainian soldiers returning from war. These photos come with sad stories but lack names, backgrounds, or coherence beyond the oddly smooth images and heart-breaking accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"525\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3.png 525w, https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3-300x274.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Similar AI-generated images<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to compare these with real before-and-after photos of soldiers, which may have inspired the creators of these AI-generated images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mykhailo Dianov, a musician who served in the Azov regiment, was one of 215 prisoners of war <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/ukrainian-pow-mistreated-by-russia-gets-130k-donations-medical-costs-2022-9\">released<\/a> in a sudden prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia in September 2022. Photos of Dianov, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DefenceU\/status\/1573346176396664833\">shared<\/a> by the Ukrainian army, show him weakened, bruised, and bearing the marks of his time in a Russian prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"418\" height=\"386\" src=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-4.png 418w, https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-4-300x277.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 418px) 100vw, 418px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Oleksandr Strafun, who was fighting in Mariupol, made his last contact with family on March 1, 2022. On June 14, 2025, Strafun came home during a prisoner of war exchange. The image below shows a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/maria_avdv\/status\/1934717572349612453\">comparison<\/a> between a photo of him one month before captivity and a photo after his release from prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"323\" height=\"364\" src=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11373\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5.png 323w, https:\/\/seecheck.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5-266x300.png 266w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These images are examples of what is called <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AI_slop\">\u2018AI slop.\u2019<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI slop describes low-quality images, videos, or texts produced using generative artificial intelligence technology, marked by a noticeable lack of effort, logic, or meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/misinforeview.hks.harvard.edu\/article\/how-spammers-and-scammers-leverage-ai-generated-images-on-facebook-for-audience-growth\/\">On Facebook, AI slop<\/a> is often intended to attract as many comments as possible and usually involves images and accompanying stories that trigger strong emotions in people. AI slop that appeals to pity, sympathy, and well-wishes in the accompanying text tends to generate a lot of engagement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To avoid misinterpretation of such content, it is important that every video, photo, or other material generated or manipulated with artificial intelligence is clearly labeled as such. This helps inform the audience and protects them from disinformation.
