The video recording from the Novi Sad branch of the Movement of Free Citizens (PSG) \u2014 allegedly proving claims of an attempted coup d\u2019\u00e9tat on March 15 \u2014 was not made by a \u201cmole from within the conspirators\u2019 ranks,\u201d but by Serbia\u2019s Security and Intelligence Agency<\/strong> (BIA). What had been suspected for months has now been officially confirmed, thanks to Insajder<\/a>. The newsroom, invoking the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance, discovered that BIA had wiretapped the premises of the Movement of Free Citizens in Novi Sad for three and a half months. The controversial video that now serves as key evidence in the indictment was obtained through that surveillance.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vu\u010di\u0107evi\u0107\u2019s \u201chooks\u201d story<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The secret recording of the meeting held on March 12, ahead of the \u201c15 for 15\u201d protest, in the PSG offices in downtown Novi Sad, was broadcast the following day as a joint production of five TV channels: Pink, Happy, Prva, Informer, and Studio B.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about the source of the recording, Informer<\/em>\u2019s owner, Dragan J. Vu\u010di\u0107evi\u0107, claimed that the audio file had been provided by one of the activists. When asked why the activist had given him the recording, Vu\u010di\u0107evi\u0107 replied:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause the man doesn\u2019t want to take part in starting a civil war. He said, \u2018I won\u2019t and I can\u2019t take part in that.\u2019 I know who he is, but of course I won\u2019t reveal his identity, not even if they hang me on hooks.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

From today\u2019s perspective, it is clear that Vu\u010di\u0107evi\u0107 fabricated not only the \u201cmole,\u201d but also the dramatic story surrounding him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The disinformation echoed through dozens of media outlets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

That same evening, March 13, the disinformation began spreading through pro-government media. The next morning, Pink TV host Jovana Jeremi\u0107 stated on air that the Novi Sad activists \u201ccouldn\u2019t even imagine that one of the people there had actually recorded everything and handed it over to the public.\u201d Neboj\u0161a Obrkne\u017eev from the Center for Social Stability<\/em> appeared on TV Informer and thanked the fictional whistleblower:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat matters is that this came out. Kudos to the man who provided everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Member of Parliament Neboj\u0161a Bakarec joined in spreading the false story in his Informer<\/em> column, writing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOne of the participants in that meeting secretly recorded his colleagues, the conspirators, and handed the evidence of the planned coup to the media. The recording is authentic, as confirmed by both BIA and the Ministry of the Interior!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The false information was published by numerous newspapers (Politika<\/em>, Kurir<\/em>, Informer<\/em>), TV stations (B92<\/em>, Pink<\/em>), and online outlets including NS u\u017eivo<\/a><\/em>, B92.net<\/a><\/em>, Pink.rs<\/a><\/em>, TV Pan\u010devo<\/a><\/em>, Sremske vesti<\/a><\/em>, Srbija danas<\/a><\/em>, Glas javnosti<\/a><\/em>, Ve\u010dernje novosti<\/a><\/em>, Novosadska TV<\/a><\/em>, Vojvodina u\u017eivo<\/a><\/em>, Kurir.rs<\/a><\/em>, Volim Podgoricu<\/a><\/em>, TV K1<\/a><\/em>, 24sedam<\/a><\/em>, Informer.rs<\/a><\/em>, Alo<\/a><\/em>, Objektiv<\/a><\/em>, Republika<\/a><\/em>, Udarna vest<\/a><\/em>, Afera<\/a><\/em>, Lajk<\/a><\/em>, Altervista<\/a><\/em>, and Borba.me<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Insajder<\/em>: The recording appears to have been made by accident<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In its article<\/a>, Insajder<\/em> reports that \u201cthe indictment suggests that BIA did not intentionally surveil the 12 activists now charged with multiple offenses against the constitutional order, but only one individual.\u201d Since that individual was not among the twelve people present at the meeting, it follows that the recording was made accidentally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Higher Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Novi Sad reacted <\/a>swiftly after the broadcast of the recording, issuing a statement on March 14 announcing that it had \u201crequested the Criminal Police Directorate to collect all relevant information and evidence in order to determine all facts and circumstances of the event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Novi Sad sought a five-year prison sentence for all suspects, charging them with several alleged crimes, including \u201cpreparing acts against the constitutional order and security.\u201d Six activists were soon arrested. After months spent in detention and house arrest, they are currently defending themselves while at liberty, whereas another six activists remain abroad, with arrest warrants issued against them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
