It was shared during the war in Iran, which began with US and Israeli attacks on the country in February 2026. The weapons shown in the video resemble Russian intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) equipped with thermonuclear warheads. Although the Russian military has repeatedly tested and conducted military exercises involving such weapons, and although these exercises are often perceived, particularly in Ukraine, as acts of intimidation, Russia has never actually used these long-range weapons (1, 2).

An ICBM, or land-based nuclear ballistic missile, has a range exceeding 5.600 kilometers, and only a few countries in the world possess this type of weapon, including Russia. Iran is not among these countries and, according to available reports, does not currently possess any nuclear weapons.

There is no public confirmation that Russia is deploying nuclear weapons from its strategic nuclear arsenal outside its own territory, including in Iran. The independent organization Council on Foreign Relations notes claims that Russia maintains nuclear warheads in Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave located between Poland and Lithuania, as well as reports regarding plans to deploy some tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.

However, the organization emphasizes that tactical nuclear weapons are intended for use against enemy forces on the battlefield and generally have a shorter range and lower yield than “so-called strategic weapons that can travel thousands of kilometers to destroy populated enemy areas”. It also notes that strategic weapons are primarily intended for intimidation and discouraging adversaries.

Any action involving supplying another country with nuclear missiles or assisting in the development of such weapons would violate a series of multilateral agreements aimed at preventing the spread and testing of nuclear weapons. In other words, such an action would constitute a breach of international agreements and would create a serious disruption in global international relations.

Referring to obligations under such agreements, former Russian President and current Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev stated in June 2025 that “Russia has no intention of supplying nuclear weapons to Iran because of its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.” His comment followed criticism from US President Donald Trump regarding Medvedev’s earlier remark that some countries were prepared to provide such weapons to Iran.

There is no confirmed information that Russia has sent any form of military assistance to Iran since the beginning of the war. In a detailed analysis of numerous claims concerning alleged Russian military assistance to Iran, the Sunday Guardian stated on March 26 that this situation represents a “complex information landscape where facts and speculation overlap,” emphasizing the importance of distinguishing verified events from unconfirmed reports. The analysis notes that Russia categorically rejects accusations of providing military assistance to Iran, including claims by Western officials that it was “sending drones” to Iran. The Sunday Guardian also states that despite the existence of such allegations, there is no independent evidence or verifiable information showing that Russia is providing direct military support to Iran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited the Russian Federation on April 27 and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Both officials stated during the meeting that relations between Russia and Iran constitute a strategic partnership. Media reports stated that Araghchi had traveled to Russia “with the aim of continuing close consultations between Tehran and Moscow on regional and international issues”.

Therefore, despite agreements on strategic partnership between Moscow and Tehran, there are no credible or verified reports that Russia is sending nuclear or any other weapons to Iran during the war in the Middle East. Sending and deploying missiles from one country’s nuclear arsenal in another country would violate international agreements on nuclear weapons and would certainly trigger a serious international crisis in global relations. The footage shared alongside these claims on Facebook shows weapons resembling Russian ballistic missiles, but its origin and authenticity remain questionable.Based on the facts above, we rate the Facebook post claiming that Russia is “helping” Iran with nuclear weapons as fake news.

Original article (in Bosnian) was published on 29/04/2026; Author: Elma Murić What are the claims?Russia is helping Iran with nuclear weapons. What are the facts? There are no confirmed reports that Russia is sending nuclear or any other weapons to Iran.
