The answer is clear: for the greater effectiveness of vaccines. It is explained in the text of the Prevention Committee of the European Society for Gynecological Oncology. It is pointed out that in adolescents vaccinated before the age of fifteen, a significantly higher concentration of antibodies to HPV was recorded than in those who were vaccinated later. A systematic review of studies from 2023 showed that the greatest effectiveness of the vaccine was recorded in the youngest age group in 17 out of a total of 21 studies.

“There is no need to vaccinate boys because they do not have female reproductive organs”

Among the posts we analyzed was a sarcastic statement that the state “introduces free vaccines for boys as well so that they don’t accidentally get cervical cancer because they might decide to change their gender at the age of 15.” A profile of the portal Srbin.info left a similar comment on X.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported the results of a 2023 survey according to which “almost one in three men over the age of 15 are infected with at least one genital type of human papillomavirus (HPV),” while one in five is infected with at least one “high-risk” type of HPV. In addition to the fact that men are also carriers of the virus, it should be noted that HPV also causes other types of cancer that men can also suffer from, such as anal, mouth, throat, and penile cancer.

“Only woman with a ‘larger’ number of sexual partners are at risk of HPV infection”

One X user, using vulgar and inappropriate vocabulary, suggested that women who get infected with HPV are those who often change sexual partners. The Canadian Cancer Society’s official website explains that frequent sexual activity can increase exposure to the virus, but that it’s possible to get it “even if you’ve only had one sexual partner.” Women are also exposed to a greater risk of developing cervical cancer if their male partners have previously had sexual relations with a large number of people. The Prevention Committee of the European Society for Gynecological Oncology adds that other (albeit less common) ways of transmitting the virus have been recorded, for example, through contaminated objects.

“Merck paid five billion dollars for side effects of the HPV vaccine in children”

It has been repeatedly claimed on X that 50,000 parents in the United States have received compensation from Merck in the total amount of five billion dollars. As they explain, “for life-long side effects of sterility and death of their children after mandatory hpv vaccines”. The closest story we’ve come across is when the drug company agreed to pay $4.85 billion in 2007 to settle most of the lawsuits that claimed the painkiller Vioxx caused health problems in 47,000 users. It was withdrawn from sale back in 2004 and is unrelated to the Gardasil and Gardasil 9 HPV vaccines.

When it comes to lawsuits related to the alleged side effects of Merck’s HPV vaccines, Reuters reports that a US federal judge ruled in favor of the company last year, in a proceeding that included more than 200 lawsuits. Judge Kenneth Bell wrote in his decision that “federal law requires more than speculative conclusions before serious warnings are attached to life-saving vaccines that deter people from using them” and noted that “such evidence is lacking in this case.”

Original article (in Serbian) was published on 12/5/2026; Author: Teodora Koledin In our previous text, we already analyzed two pieces of disinformation from X about the HPV vaccination – that it causes infertility in women and that the vaccine is banned in Japan.
