{"id":9581,"date":"2024-06-26T15:08:22","date_gmt":"2024-06-26T14:08:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/?p=9581"},"modified":"2024-07-19T12:39:39","modified_gmt":"2024-07-19T11:39:39","slug":"global-fact-conference-opens-in-sarajevo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seecheck.org\/index.php\/2024\/06\/26\/global-fact-conference-opens-in-sarajevo\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Fact Conference Opens in Sarajevo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina \u2013 June 26, 2024 \u2013 <\/strong>Global Fact, the world\u2019s largest gathering of fact-checkers, has commenced in Sarajevo, bringing together over 500 media professionals and participants from more than 80 countries.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This conference, organized by Poynter and the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), in partnership with Sarajevo-based organization \u201cWhy Not\u201d (\u201cZa\u0161to ne\u201d), is a significant event for those in journalism, fact-checking, academia, information technology, and media studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The keynote speaker for the opening session was Maria Ressa, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, who delivered an inspirational speech emphasizing the importance and power of facts and journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFacts are the only anchor in our shared reality,\u201d Ressa highlighted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opening remarks were delivered by Ferdi Ferhat \u00d6zsoy, deputy director at IFCN, Angie Drobnic Helan, IFCN director, Tijana Cvjeti\u0107anin, Head of Fact-Checking at \u201cWhy Not\u201d, and Adebayo Babajide, Deputy Head of EU Delegation to Bosnia-Herzegovina.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the next three days, Global Fact 2024 will feature more than 100 speakers from leading organizations in the fields of fact-checking and journalism. These speakers will tackle crucial contemporary topics such as global elections, artificial intelligence, fact-checking in war contexts, social networks, and the increasing attacks on fact-checkers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference will conclude with the GlobalFact Awards, which celebrate the outstanding achievements of fact-checkers worldwide. These awards honor individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to the field of fact-checking, showcasing excellence in innovation, impact, and collaboration.
