While rockets are shelling and people are being killed in Ukraine, online media and social networks are bursting with disinformation and fake news. Video content and photographs are being misused, and false statements are also being attributed to the leaders, in this case, to the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Allegedly, Putin’s statement was published on the Facebook page Vijesti iz Crne Gore, which added a photo from the church where he is being baptized.

“One should not look to the West. We will never be good for them, because we are Orthodox. We will not be good for them even if we give them our whole country and turn ourselves into their slaves. They would have destroyed us a long time ago, they would have pelted us with rockets and bombs, if they believed there, in the West, that we would not get bact at them for that”.

Vladimir Putin

This is not a statement by the President of Russia but by Igor Pshenichnikov, a political scientist and editor of the political section on the website Carigrad . The entire text, signed by Pshenichnikov, was published in 2014 on the website IN4S. The same text, with the same author, was published on balkanpress.

Pshenichnikov is Putin’s supporter, and this can be concluded from numerous columns and comments he published on the website Carigrad, which is sometimes reported by the media from this region.

Due to all the above, we give this announcement a rating of ‘disinformation’.

The rating “disinformation” is given to a media report that contains a “mixture” of facts and inaccurate or semi-true content. In such cases, the media does not need to be necessarily aware of the inaccurate information published along with the truth. Also, this assessment will treat reports that have false attributions or titles that do not reflect the text in terms of accuracy of information.
