After an anonymous Canadian portal published false claims that Klaus Schwab had been arrested, identical allegations began to be shared on Facebook in the SEE region. Since this disinformation was circulating in BiH and Montenegro, raskrinkavanje.ba and raskrinkavanje.me both published a debunk. The claim first appeared in the See region on a private social media profile known for conspiracy theories, from where it spread to dozens of other profiles and groups across the region.

Countless misinformation is published on the Internet every day. Some misinformation is simple and easy to prove, while for some, the reader must give it a serious thought.

Such is the announcement that Klaus Schwab, the founder of the World Economic Forum, has been arrested in Switzerland.

“SWAB ARRESTED IN SWITZERLAND …!”, claims the author of the publication.

She shared the title used by the Conservative Beaver website, which did publish a text with the information that Schwab was arrested in Switzerland.

However, EUROPOL confirmed to Reuters that this is fake news.

The Swiss federal police also told Reuters that these claims were not true.

Also, the AFP determined that, at the time when it was claimed that Schwab was arrested, he had been visiting the United Arab Emirates for at least four days.

In addition, Yann Zopf, head of the media department of the World Economic Forum, also confirmed to AFP that this was fake news.

“I can confirm that this is incorrect information. Nothing in this story is based on facts or connected to any (credible) source,” he said.

We have exposed similar untruths about the arrest of Pfizer’s director and American epidemiologist Anthony Fauci earlier.

Since Schwab was not arrested, this announcement is rated as fake news.

The “fake news” rating is given to the original media report (entirely produced by the media that published it) that contains factually incorrect claims or information. Content that is assessed as fake news can be reliably established to have been created and disseminated to misinform the public, that is, to present a claim that is completely false as fact.
