The anti-migrant narrative remains present, and one such story comes from a demonstration of a vest designed to withstand stabs from knives, blades, and blunt objects.
In a video that has reappeared on social media numerous times, a man dressed in a suit is repeatedly attacked by another man using various objects. This is, in fact, a demonstration of modern protective gear.
The video is accompanied by text that reads: (archived: here)
“A new anti-immigrant vest tested by the company’s general director.
What are they preparing us for?!”
The video features a live demonstration by the British company PPSS at the Security EXPO in London in 2019. The company’s director, Robert Kaiser, allowed a colleague to stab him without hesitation and remained unharmed.
The description of the video reads:
“Certified spike protection is crucial, especially to correctional and prison officers, but it is of equal importance to all professionals in national security and private security simply due to the types of weapons that have appeared on the streets in recent years.
The reason why we have decided to create a ‘new generation’ of stab vests body armour lies in the recent changes of today’s society.
Looking especially at Western Europe and many other regions, we have to accept that religious extremism, terrorism, social deprivation, immigration and a general breakdown in society have all contributed to the increasing number of edged weapons being carried, but also the types of edged weapons actually being used.”
In another video, Kaiser endured three hours of torture to prove the effectiveness of his product.
In the description of that video, PPSS states:
“Truly revolutionary carbon fiber vests from PPSS Group have real operational meaning… they are designed and developed to provide the highest levels of protection for professionals in internal security, such as police, prison services, immigration, customs, border control, or private security companies.”
It is clear that PPSS did not manufacture an anti-immigrant vest, as claimed in the misleading post, but rather a vest intended for law enforcement and security personnel to protect them from anyone wielding sharp or blunt objects.
The post is rated as a “manipulation of facts.“
The “Manipulation of Facts” rating is given to a media report that uses known and accurate facts but interprets them in a deceptive manner. These reports generally employ accurate information to
draw incorrect conclusions or claims, leading media consumers to draw conclusions that differ from the actual meaning of the presented facts.
