“This seems like fake news”, a reader wrote to us, and also forwarded a link to an Instagram post claiming that Danish students are setting off from Copenhagen to Strasbourg to support their Serbian peers in the fight against corruption. However, Tragac did not find any relevant sources confirming this alleged action taken by students from Denmark.
It appears that the disinformation spread based on news about cyclist Milan Bojic from Belgrade, who has been living in Copenhagen for some time, and who is setting off on his own trip from the city to Strasbourg to join Serbian students (1, 2, 3). In connection with this, a page was created on the website “GoFundMe” to collect donations to help cover Bojic’s travel expenses, such as accommodation and bicycle maintenance. A few “enthusiasts” from the Dutch diaspora also set off for Strasbourg, with their departure organized in front of the University of Amsterdam campus.
The Serbian students who started the “Trip to Strasbourg” published on their official website a list of everyone cycling across Europe to support them. This list includes the aforementioned Milan Bojic, as well as people who departed from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Konstanz, and Bonn, but not students from Denmark.
As for the promotional photo in the post our reader sent, it was – most likely – generated with the help of artificial intelligence. In addition to the striking visual aesthetic that suggests this, several AI image detection tools reached the same conclusion (Sightengine, WasItAi, Hive Moderation).

We also tried searching for the disputed information in Danish in hopes of finding credible media sources from that country, but it appears that no Danish news web portal has reported it. However, the lack of reliable sources has not stopped the information from spreading further on various social media platforms (1, 2, 3, 4).
Tragac also contacted the Danish Students’ Council (Danske Studerendes Fællesråd), which consists of 20 member organizations and represents over 165,000 students in Denmark. Spokesperson Kristoffer Rosenkvist responded that they “have not heard of the story about Danish students biking to Strasbourg”.
