The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC B&H), at a session in Sarajevo a few days ago, adopted a decision to revoke the mandate of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, following a final verdict of the Court of B&H.
The court had earlier handed down a final judgment sentencing Dodik to one year in prison and banning him from holding that and other political functions in the country for the next six years, due to non-compliance with the decisions of the High Representative in B&H.
This decision, as expected, triggered a political crisis in the B&H entity Republika Srpska, but also in Sarajevo. Certain media outlets wanted to present that Dodik’s political fate was being discussed at the global level as well.
Thus, the portal Borba (archived) published that White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt also supported Dodik.
“White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt responded on X to a post by retired American General and former national security adviser in Donald Trump’s first term, Michael Flynn, about the President of Republika Srpska, and declared that faith is stronger than any oppression.
– It is shocking to see the struggles our Christian brothers and sisters face abroad. Remember, faith is stronger than any kind of oppression. Pray and stand firm, because history shows us – you cannot stop a good Christian. Keep the faith – Leavitt emphasized, Borba writes.
The Portal 083 (archived) also published the same news.
However, this was neither the White House nor Leavitt’s position. The comment on the post of former General Michael Flynn was published by a Leavitt fan account. As stated in the profile description, this account is in no way connected with Karoline Leavitt.
This is obvious even at first glance from the posts on this page, where debates are conducted about whether Leavitt should continue to wear the cross during press conferences, as well as through similar parodies.
Like Borba, bl-portal.com also published that the spokeswoman supported Dodik, but they edited the news and removed that part from the text. Nevertheless, a “trace” remained in the URL of the publication, which shows that this portal too, was misled by the fake profile on X.
Given that Borba presented a fake profile as the official position of the White House spokeswoman, we rate the publication of this portal as Fake News.
The rating “Fake News” is given to the original media report (completely produced by the media outlet that published it) that contains factually incorrect claims or information. For content rated as fake news, it can be reliably determined that it was created and disseminated with the intention of misleading the public, i.e. to present a claim that is completely false as a fact.
