An Instagram post with over 500 likes and 600 comments claims that Albania has approved “a law permitting same-sex marriages.”

Nevertheless, gay, and bisexual Albanians should not celebrate yet.
The above post is false. Marriages between people of the same sex are still illegal in Albania.
TV Besa posted this claim following the adoption in the Albanian Parliament of a widely discussed gender equality law in November 2025.
Although the draft law has been at the center of misinformation by media and social networks, no one in Albania, supporters or opponents of the draft-law, has claimed that it would allow marriages between people of the same sex.
