What are the claims?
The media is lying about the aviation industry being in a crisis due to a fuel shortage, as planes fly every day and spray from the air.
What are the facts?
Spraying from airplanes is not real. The white trails left by planes in the sky are formed by the condensation of exhaust gases at high altitudes.
The global aviation fuel market has been under pressure in recent months due to supply disruptions caused by the war in the Middle East and limited flow through strategic points like the Strait of Hormuz. Although, according to Reuters, there are currently no complete shortages, the supply chain has been significantly altered as the market “regroups” by sourcing oil and fuel from more distant locations (the US, Africa, and Asia), which leads to higher costs and rising prices.
On May 6, 2026, a post was shared on the Telegram channel “iSTiNA” claiming that reports of a crisis in the aviation industry due to a fuel shortage are not true, as it is visible that planes fly every day and “spray from the air”.
Mainstream media writes that the aviation industry is in a crisis due to a lack of fuel? Since we all have eyes, we only need to look up at the sky to see that the mainstream media is lying to us again, considering that we get a daily dose of spraying from the air every day. So how is it that there is no fuel for planes?
In addition to Telegram, we found such posts on several Facebook profiles (1, 2, 3).
What are the Facts?
The claim that airplanes intentionally “spray” the population every day aligns with the narrative of the “chemtrails” conspiracy theory, which Raskrinkavanje has written about multiple times (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). It is one of the most widespread conspiracy theories, with a large number of followers in our region. This conspiracy theory is based on the belief that the trails airplanes leave in the sky are chemicals intentionally sprayed into the air. Proponents of this conspiracy theory claim that such “spraying” exposes the population to various harmful substances, with the goals being depopulation, behavior control, causing diseases, weather manipulation, or executing secret international programs.
However, the trails seen behind airplanes operating commercial flights are condensation trails (contrails), created by the freezing of water vapor from the exhaust gases of jet engines at high altitudes.
Even if there are problems with aviation fuel supply at some point, it will not necessarily lead to a complete suspension of flights. Shortages and supply disruptions due to the war in the Middle East have resulted in higher prices, reduced capacity, and the cancellation of certain routes, but not in a complete cessation of commercial flights.
Despite warnings that a war with Iran could cause serious disruptions in aviation fuel supply, the aviation industry has so far managed to avoid a major crisis. The largest airlines state that they currently have sufficient fuel reserves for the next few months.
Therefore, the presence of airplanes in the sky is not proof that there are no fuel supply problems or that planes are “spraying” from the air. Accordingly, we rate these claims as a conspiracy theory.
